Never Ending Summer – July 2016 Birchbox Review

Hi Everyone

Hope you’re all having a fabulous July.  This month’s Birchbox focuses on those hot Summer days and contains a selection of item’s that will carry you throughout the Summer months.  The box is in collaboration with Millie MacKintosh.  If you’re not sure who she is, well she is a previous cast member of Made In Chelsea, was married to Professor Green and her relatives invented the Quality Street chocolates.  A was really happy with this month’s items as the sample sizes were spot on and featured a good variety of quality products.

John Frieda Luxurious 7 Day Volume Treatment – Full Size Received £9.99

This is an in-shower treatment which will amplify hair thickness for up to 7 days.  You shampoo and condition your hair as normal, then apply 3-4 pumps of this on the root of the hair.  Leave it on for 3-5 minutes before washing out.  The product will help you to achieve a smooth blow dry whilst giving some volume.  I have fine hair so not a lot of products work however I’d say this one was average.  If you have tried this, I would love to know whether it worked and on what hair type.  The product contains keratin and protein, both ingredients that will help improve damaged and colour treated hair.

Elemis Hydra Nourish Night Cream – £43

I absolutely love Elemis skincare! Although the products can be rather pricey, you are definitely paying for high quality luxurious items that do work and you will notice a difference in your skin straight away.  I was very excited to find this item in my box.  It contains a blend of geranium and ylang ylang to replenish skin, and hyaluronic acid to rehydrate your complexion.  My skin looks fresh and awake in the morning.  It’s an absolutely amazing product and I will definitely be purchasing the full sized version.

Nails Inc Nail Polish – £15

Nails Inc is a great nail brand as I find that their polishes have longevity and very rarely do they chip.  A few months ago they launched a range of colours named after London landmarks and streets, which I think is pretty cool as I’m a Londoner (:  This is the shade “Old Park Lane” which is a metallic dulled down rose gold.  It’s very pretty and the perfect shade for Summer tootsies in golden sandals.  All products arrived in this cute “Best Day Ever” bag.

LOC x Millie Lip Pencil – Full Size Received £9

LOC is the brand created by Birchbox and the products really are good quality.  This is the lip pencil in the shade “Bohemian Rose”.  It is a dark bubble gum pink shade.  It is easy to apply and feels glossy on the lips whilst providing moisture and colour that lasts a long time.  The shade screams Summer! It really does compliment your skin no matter what your tone is.

Hydraluron Moisture Boosting Mask – £19.99

As you know I love sheet masks as it’s the best way of getting a product to sink deep into the skin which will make you see results!  This is an innovative sheet mask with a unique approach to hydration as it releases hyaluronic acid slowly into the skin over time for longer lasting relief from dry skin.  Basically it’s a big drink of water for your skin! I loved using this product and will most definitely be investing in more.  My biggest tip for a sheet mask is to store them in the refrigerator! The cooling sensation when you apply it to your face is unbelievably good.

I hope you enjoyed reading this post and it has allowed you to discover some new brands and products.  If you are a Birchbox subscriber I’d love to know what items you received this month.  As always if you have tried any of these products or would recommend other items from the brands mentioned, I would love to hear your views.

June 2016 Favourites

Hello Lovely People!

Hope you are all enjoying the first few days of July… one of the best months of the year as it means it’s my birthday and vacation month! (:

There were quite a few beauty items that I was loving during June and I may have splurged slightly on some designer items…. a Michael Kors backpack (click here for my previous post), a Tory Burch tote and a Marc Jacobs wallet.  But they were of course worth every penny and if you work hard, why not treat yourself every now and again… right?!

Here are a selected few items that I really enjoyed using, most of which are relatively new on the scene so please let me know if you have tried any and of course what items you were loving during June.

First up is my Marc Jacobs Recruit wallet.  It’s black, sophisticated and utterly gorgeous.  I was looking for a smaller wallet for my vacation that could hold both notes, a lot of coins and cards.  This wallet stuck out as it has a stud fastening to the card and note compartment and a zip for the coin compartment which is on the outer section.  I wanted to move away from the continental style wallets with the zip all the way around.  It’s quite difficult to locate this one however I purchased mine from Harvey Nichols here in London.  It was full price and £160.

You guys will know that I am obsessed with the brand Starskin as I have featured their products often in my blogs.  I swear by their fabric sheet masks and the serum that they’re soaked in is possibly THE best serum on the market! Starskin have recently launched their Detoxing Sea Kelp Leaf Cleansing Foam.  It comes in a re-sealable packet which is unique to any other product on the market.  It will cleanse the skin so well removing all traces of make up that you’re skin has a squeaky clean feeling (your skin really does squeak!!)  It smoothes and hydrates the skin, and works perfectly with my Clarisonic.  Apart from Sea Kelp, the product contains green caviar to brighten, rejuvenating jelly fish, softening sea cucumber and balancing licorice root.  An intriguing set of ingredients! This product is!! I purchased mine from Selfridges and it was £22.

Philip Kingsley launched a new volumising product for us girls with thin hair.  This is similar to the maximiser which really does add volume without weighing the hair down.  This is the Weather Proof Styling Froth which adds body and volume, shine and protects against environment and heat styling.  It’s nothing like a mouse which can be rather heavy and sticky.  This is a foam which is non sticky and I would say excellent for anyone with shorter than shoulder length hair.  This one retails at £22.

Have you ever wondered what the fragrance of the Victoria Secret Pink stores are? Well I found out and bought it! It’s actually a body mist however I’ve been using it as a room spray and also sprayed it in with drawers to scent my clothes.  The body mists in Pink don’t seem to have a name of the scent however if you’re wondering, it’s the bright pink bottle.  This retails at £22.

Estee Lauder is one of my go to beauty brands as I highly recommend their skin care and of course their double wear light foundation.  I wanted to try a nude liquid lipstick and came across this one, which is number 120 Extreme Nude.  It’s actually a slightly dark nude, a bit lighter than the Mac Whirl lipstick.  This lip product is long lasting and I think it would suit every skin tone.  I am very pale and it never makes me look gothic.  It’s a really pretty sophisticated hue and was £20.

I hope you enjoyed reading this post! Remember to let me know your thoughts on these items and anything you were loving during the month of June.

To all my US subscribers, Happy 4th of July!! Hope you have a great day of celebrations and enjoy the fireworks (: xx

Have a great week!

Michael Kors Rhea Backpack – An Early Birthday Gift (:

Hi Guys,

Hope you all had a great weekend!

My Summer vaycay and birthday is fast approaching, so I  figured that I would have a mini splurge and purchase the Michael Kors Rhea backpack.  I figured that since I’m going on a beachy holiday flying at a ridiculously early time, a backpack would be my bag of choice.  Not only is it more convenient when you have to master wheeling a suitcase whilst still trying to look glam, it is practical and holds a lot!

What sold the Rhea bag for me was of course the studs! The gold pyramid polished studs give this bag an elegance with an edge accent.  I don’t believe the white with gold bag is available here in the UK.  It tends to be the white with silver so I opted to purchase the bag from Macy’s online.  The bag retails at £310.  It has two main zipped pockets and a zipped pocket around the bag.  Inside contains 3 secured pockets plus a key ring clip to attach your keys so that you will never lose them.

I absolutely love this bag…it’s simply beautiful!

Have a great week!

Paradise Found…. June Birchbox Review

Hi Guys

This month Birchbox changed the style of their boxes from the usual drawstring bag to a keepsake pull out drawer.  What makes this even better is that fact that I was lucky enough to receive the box with the pineapples, yippee!! The other box design was palm trees however hands down the pineapple design is adorably cute.  I may use this little box as storage for hair ties and accessories, as those pesky little hair grips seem to be everywhere in my apartment!

The theme of the box is “Paradise Found” which has a tropical Summer vacation vibe.  The in-box leaflet contains tips for the Summer season along with how to apply the products.  The box contains 5 items which will prep the skin for those hot days when we go bare faced and bare legged.

James Read – Overnight Tan – £25

This is a sleep mask tan for the face however I’ve tried this product before and have applied to my arms and legs.  It’s a fast drying formula which when applied is colourless, so there’s no staining your pillow at night.  Overnight it will develop into a golden glow which isn’t orangey nor streaky.  It reminds me of the moisturisers with a hint of self tan.  Of course to ensure no streaks, it’s best to use a facial scrub before application to banish any dry skin.  I have very pale skin and this works very well leaving a natural sun-kissed glow.

Percy & Reed Hairspray – £12

This is the perfect size to pop in your handbag! It is an ultra fine, humidity resistant spray which will hold your style in place for hours.  I felt as though it did make my hair feel slightly crunchy  however it’s easy to brush out without leaving any residue.  I wasn’t overly convinced by the smell although it wasn’t over powering thankfully.

Jelly Pong Pong – Paradise Pigments Colour Pot – £17.95 (full size received)

I received the shade Cake Pop which is a very bright vibrant pink.  It’s a stain for lips and cheeks and boy does it stain! I think that the colour is too bright for my skin tone however if you had a golden tan this would look gorgeous! It is easy to blend onto cheeks for a pop of colour however again it was too bright for my complexion and I ended up looking rather clown-esk.   The other shade that this comes in is Fig Jam which is a very pretty orange.  I think I would be more suited to that one unfortunately.

Whish – Coconut Milk CC Cream – £15.50

This is a brand that I’ve never came across before so was excited to trial this out.  The product has a gorgeous strong coconut fragrance which immediately puts you in the vacation mood.  It’s fast absorbing and deeply hydrates the skin.  It has a slight bronze shimmer to it which looks gorgeous on tanned skin.  I used it across my cheeks as a highlighter which made my foundation appear dewy.  A good multi tasking product.

Pure & Light Organic – Essential Face Cream £29

Another new brand discovery! This is a daily moisturiser that is packed with not one but twenty-seven certified organic antioxidant ingredients.  It includes Argan, Rose-Hip, Grape-seed, Orange Blossom and natural vitamins A, D and E.  It also contains omega 3 and 6 to boost cell renewal and deliver hydration.  The product had a very faint fragrance and was quick to absorb into the skin.  It left my skin feeling silky smooth and glowing.

Having seen the box design I was very excited about this box however I would probably only consider purchasing 2 out of the 5 items.  This month didn’t contain the best contents so I’m excited to see what July (my birthday month!!) brings.

Let me know whether you received anything different to me as I love hearing what you received, your recommendations and of course those items which you would avoid.  If you have another other beauty box recommendations I’d love hearing those too!

Skinny Tan Self-Tanning Review

Hi Guys

As temperatures begin to sore here in London, it’s time to start sporting those gorgeous Summer dresses, shorts and vest tops.  Now if you’re like me and are rather on the pasty white side, then you will of course be in need of some self tan.  My go to brand is St Tropez because it’s easy to apply, it’s streak free, doesn’t turn you a shade of orange and I know that it works, which of course is the most important factor.  However, recently when I was browsing my social media, I kept coming across an advert for Skinny Tan.  I recall seeing this product featured on the TV show Dragons Den, plus the reviews sounded pretty awesome so I caved and I bought it.

Skinny Tan is the first self tanner that combines a natural tanning active with naturally derived skin smoothing actives such as Guarana to tan, contour and reduce the visible appearance of cellulite.  I love tanning the safe way as I find it makes me feel more confident and instantly toned.  I managed to purchase the product online with an exclusive buy one get one free offer.  In addition to receiving two 150ml bottles, I also received a tanning mitt and a tanning primmer for free.  All for £30, bargain!

To prolong a tan and to ensure that it doesn’t result in a streaky mess, it’s important to exfoliate first, particularly around your ankles, knees, knuckles and elbows.  Most scrubs work however I prefer one with a real gritty texture.  My favourite is a sugar scrub which is a miracle worker for banishing dead dry skin and will leave skin silky smooth.  The tanning primmer by Skinny Tan is a gritty formula and costs £9.99.  It contains crushed walnut shell and smells like coconut.  Delicious! Skin is left feeling incredibly smooth.

From researching tanning products, it’s important to look out for one that contains natural ingredients.  Not only will it ensure a streak free tan and a natural glow, you will not be subjected to the classic tanning biscuity smell.  This product is made with a seed tanner along with Guarana that works together with your skin creating a natural colour.  You probably know that Guarana is a caffine derivative however it’s also an important ingredient in firming and cellulite creams.  The high caffeine content stimulates a process that will help to visibly reduce the appearance of cellulite at the surface of the skin by smoothing the overall surface of the skin.

This tan is a mouse formula and is scent free.  The benefit of it being so dark is so that you can see where you have applied the product so that you can even out streaks and ensure you haven’t missed any parts of your body.  You can build the colour by applying more.  It’s recommended to leave the product on for around 4-6 hours before washing off.  During that time the colour will continue to develop so if you prefer a darker more intense tan, then you would leave it on the skin for longer.  I stand under the shower to let the water remove the tan.  I don’t use any shower products and then I pat myself dry and apply moisturiser.  To prolong your tan, it’s important to moisturise daily and keep hydrated.

I applied the product wearing gloves and using the dual tanning mitt.  This is probably the best tanning mitt ever invented!! It has a luxurious double sided velvety finish creating it to be the smoothest tanning applicator.  The product doesn’t sink through the glove like most others available on the high street.  It’s re-usable and you can pop it in the washing machine to wash it.

This product left me with a gorgeous streak free tan which leaves you with a natural healthy glow.  As you can see from the before (left) photo I am rather pale.  I’m very happy with the result, (right photo).  I didn’t apply too much as I’m always nervous about trying new tanning products.  I know for next time to apply a little more to create a deeper tan.  I also applied the product to my face, which is safe to do so.  It applied very well and I no longer require foundation.  Perhaps only a little tinned moisturiser will do the trick, perfect to allow your skin to breathe if you’re out and about in the sunshine or on the dreaded tube.

Skinny Tan is available to purchase online via their website and also in stores such as Boots and Superdrug, where it currently has 50% off.  I would highly recommend this product as my tan lasted for at least 7 days before I re-applied to top it up.

If you have tried Skinny Tan I would love to know your thoughts on whether you loved or hated it.  Have you ever had a bad self tanning experience? If so, please leave a comment in the box below.

I hope you enjoyed reading this post!
