My Little Box March 2017 #NoFilter

The March My Little Box has arrived and for the second time this year we’ve seen the box replaced with a bag.  This month’s goodies were packaged in a gorgeous peach toned semi transparent zipped makeup bag.  It’s the perfect size for packing your toiletries when your going on vacation and as it’s plastic, there’s no fretting if any of your products should leak (we’ve all been there!).  It would also make a great makeup bag or to hold your belongings if you were off to the beach or pool.  It screams Summer vibes so I was very intrigued to see what this month had to offer.

The theme this month is to help you release your inner beauty, ditching social media filters and just to be your beautiful self.  The bag has the caption #NoFilterBeauty, s’il vous plait.  The postcard this month encaptures the theme well with the slogan, “You were born to be real not perfect” As the media and social media community continually airbrush out flaws, this was a nice reminder to be true to yourself. Although I was slightly disappointed that the classic MLB illustration was missing this month, I will definitely be using this postcard in some of my insta posts in the future.

The first item that I pulled out was a little notepad for jotting down your thoughts and beauty ideas.  Inside there are tips on how to create the perfect Instagram shot, quotes and short memoirs from inspirational beautiful women and makeup and skincare tips.  It’s a positive little book, has lots of pages for your notes and has an adorable illustration across the cover.  It’s perfect for popping in your handbag for on the go inspiration.

Next up I pulled out a very intriguing and adorable bubble wrap pouch. Who knew you could get heart bubble wrap!?! Love this! Inside is a metal ring that sticks onto the back of your phone to prevent you from dropping it when trying to take a selfie.  A fabulous idea as we’ve all been there trying desperately to get the perfect shot and nearly dropping our brand new iPhone.  Thankfully I have never yet succumbed to the cracked phone screen however it has been close. This little device can also be used as a mini tripod.  A very clever invention.

The first beauty item was a beautiful Instagram worthy foundation brush from the My Little Beauty collection.  The combination of brushed pink bristles and rose gold finishing makes this item a winner from the get go.  The bristles are luxuriously soft.  I don’t think that it would be great for applying foundation, I think I would use this more for powder or blush as it will provide the perfect coverage whilst maintaining its softness. Love this item!

I was very excited to see a Laura Mercier item especially as it is one that I have been eyeing up for a while.  It’s the blemish less foundation primer.  It’s a white cream that sinks into your skin leaving it feeling silky smooth. It dries quickly and smoothes out the texture of the skin.  A lot goes along way.  I tried it under my foundation and I was very impressed.  The sample is 15ml which is a decent size and I would think this would last 2-4 weeks.  I’ve had a few breakouts recently so with salicylic acid as one of the ingredients, hopefully this will clear my skin up completely.

Also from My Little Beauty was this pale pink nail polish.  I’ve had a few polishes from MLB and they do tend to last for ages without chipping so I’m looking forward to trying this.  It would make the perfect shade for work however I can’t wear any polish on my fingers, only my toes because bizarrely I’m allergic to it (my fingers turn blue and I lose sensation, crazy right!).

I love translucent powders so was excited to find a new launch from Make Up Forever.  It’s an ultra fine pressed powder which is great for setting your foundation, particularly if you have oily skin or want your makeup to last all day.  As it’s translucent it’s perfect for on the go touch ups and it suits every skin tone.

Overall I was very impressed with this month’s box as every item I have been loving so far.  Once again My Little Box has upped their game and continues to be a fabulous box.

What do you all think of this month’s edition?

Thanks for reading xx

Créme de la Mer Limited Edition GlossyBox

When I heard that GlossyBox were doing a collaboration with Créme De La Mer I knew in an instant that this limited edition beauty box would be like gold dust. Similar to last year’s collab with Nars, the boxes sold out in record timing. Thankfully I was poised ready and managed to get my hands on one. If you’re not familiar with La Mer, it’s the number one skincare brand worldwide and probably the most priciest. I have always wanted to try their products however I could never really justify paying over £100 for a tiny pot of moisturiser. Thankfully along came along this box containing 6 of their best sellers, which was £30 for GlossyBox subscribers and £40 for non subscribers.

The packaging was simple and sophisticated in the classic La Mer pastel green. The products were tied together with a elegant ribbon which gave a nice touch. Once unraveled I was slightly disappointed to find the sizes were tiny! Less than 5ml in most items which technically could have been picked up as a sample from your local department store. This was far from the standards of the Nars box contents which were more mini versions of the full size items rather than simply being samples.

The item I was most excited to try was the Créme de la Mer moisturiser which is their most iconic product. It contains a Miracle Broth which is activated when you warm a small amount in between your finger tips. The cream feels quite rich however once rubbed into the skin it instantly deeply hydrates and soothes skin. You can tailor this to your skin type, for example if you have oily skin you should apply once a day, if you have dry skin apply in the morning and evening, and if you have combination skin you really only need to apply to the drier areas of your face. There’s actually five different textures to this moisturiser available including a matte and a luxurious glossy illuminating texture. A full size 30ml pot will set you back £115. Pricey however it really is amazing.

Launched earlier this year, the La Mer Revitalising Hydrating Serum instantly infuses skin with much needed energy and hydration. Micro droplets help skin attract and hold moisture, while delivering the key active ingredients deep within the skin’s surface layers. If you have oily skin, this is the only skincare item that you need to apply in the morning. The full sized 30ml version retails at £145. Having used this three times in a row I’ve noticed a significant difference, not only hydrating my skin but also helping to clear away pesky blemishes.

The Eye Concentrate is a luxurious light weight gel cream that aims to combat signs of ageing and fatigue. It contains radiant ferments that infuse the skin with energy, reinforcing its innate support system. It also contains a calming cocktail of sea algae and anti-irritants to soothe and balance. As you know the eye area is particularly fragile and one of the first places where signs of ageing will show first therefore it is important to invest in a good quality eye product. You’ll thank me later! This item retails at £150 (gulp) for 15ml.

The Intensive Revitalising Mask is the secret to detoxifying the skin leaving it brighter, fresher and plumped. In a mere 8 minutes your skin will be drenched in moisture, free radicals neutralised and your complexion will be protected from stress and pollution all thanks to the trio of Miracle Broth, Vitality Ferment and Purifying Ferment. The full size version is 75ml and retails at £115.

As the trend for micellar water continues, La Mer’s version is a cooling cleanser that has the refreshing feel of a splash of water without the skin drying effects. Positively charged water molecules dissolve impurities and even the most stubborn makeup, while purifying algae gets to grips with dirt and pollution leaving skin feeling soft and hydrated. I did enjoy using this however I am still hooked on my Emma Hardin Moringa Cleansing balm so I’m afraid I would give this one a miss. For 200ml it retails at £70.

Finally the last item included in the box was the Treatment Lotion. Described as ‘liquid energy’, this rich and silky hydrator floods skin with moisture and wakes up the complexion as well as visibly improving the texture of your skin. The awesome thing about this product is that it also helps penetrate into the skin any other products that you apply on top, efficiently boosting the effectiveness of your overall skincare routine. 150ml retails at £100.

I can definitely understand why the contents of the box are so small in comparison to their retail value and can safely say it was more than worth it to be able to try a skincare regime by this iconic brand. I absolutely love the La Mer moisturiser which may be a treat next time I’m coming through the duty free. As I was also told, look after your skin from a young age and you’ll reap the rewards later in life.

Did any of you manage to get your hands on one of these boxes? If so what were your thoughts. And if you have tried this brand before I would love to know your views so pop a comment in the box below.

Until next time….

February Favourites – 2017

I’m back with my February favourites.  This month was all about my new fitness regime, stepping out of my comfort zone and experiencing new things.  In addition to that there were SO many awesome finds that I had difficulty narrowing it down to a selection.  I have tried and loved a section of beauty, skincare and makeup items.

Starting off with the Charlotte Tilbury Bar of Gold Highlighter.  Last time it was released it was literally like gold dust and sold out in minutes so there was no chance I was missing out.  It’s a gorgeous skin illuminating highlighter that has pure gold pearls to create a glossy radiant complexion.  It’s ideal for lifting dull skin, suits all skin tones and looks beautiful over bronze adding that all important dusting of glamour.  It is still available at most Charlotte Tilbury counters and retails at £32.

I already did a post on the YSL Volupté Tint In Balm however it’s so pretty that I just had to add it into my favourites.  You can check out my post here.  I managed to purchase it in Selfridges before it’s release date as they had exclusivity on the range.  It’s a super hydrating lip conditioning balm that smells delicious.  The one that I picked up was in shade 7 and it smells, and tastes, like peachy watermelons.  It’s perfect for “gym makeup” (no judging!) or to give a pop of colour on the go without going down the full on lipstick route.  The packaging is insanely gorgeous! I don’t think I’ve seen beauty packaging that would top this.  It retails for £28.

Whilst I was also in Selfridges I stumbled upon a new sheet mask range by Leaders 7 Wonders.  The packaging is colourful and eye catching. I picked up the Kalahari Melon one which s a moisture boost for dehydrated rough skin. Enriched with melon from the Kalahari region of Africa this mask will soothe and smooth dry skin whilst leaving it feeling dewy and supple.  You know me I love a sheet mask and the best results are when you keep them in the refrigerator as the extra coolness on your skin wakes it up and calms the skin.

I was on the lookout for a new hydrating mist and I’ve had my eye on the Kiehl’s Cactus Flower and Tibetan Ginseng Hydrating Mist for ages.  For the larger sized bottle it’s £28.50 however it lasts for such a long time.  I use this everyday and it looks like I’ve barely used it.  The mist is fine and can be sprayed on top of make up or on bare skin. The combination of Cactus Flower and Tibetan Ginseng helps skin maintain its essential moisture to keep it soft and smooth.  It also contains a potent blend of lavender, geranium and rosemary essential oils which work together detoxifying and protecting the skin from environmental aggressors.  It’s perfect for on the go and particularly good if you’re on a long haul flight.

Having purchased the Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream previously, I felt as though it was maybe slightly too heavy on my skin.  In the morning my skin felt so greasy, sticky and my pores seemed to be clogged.  I was given a sample of the Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Oil Free Gel Cream which I find perfect for my skin type.  It’s light weight, sinks easily into the skin and you can immediately feel as though your skin in drinking this up.  In the morning I don’t have the odd sticky residue and my skin feels soft and hydrated.  I had a week’s sample and I really liked it so will be purchasing this very soon.  The full size pot retails for £45.

I discovered The Ordinary on the Sheer Luxe Must Have Items and having received a lot of hype and some incredible reviews I decided to give it a go.  The brand prides itself on no frills on their packaging which keeps their prices low however I quite like it being monochrome and straight to the point. If I saw this inshore I would think that it would be rather expensive however it retails for £9.  It is a highly effective anti ageing serum formulated to target fine lines and wrinkles.  Using two generations of matrixyl, one of the most powerful anti ageing ingredients, this serum dramatically reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles by stimulating collagen and elastin production.  The addition of hyaluronic acid provides a boost of hydration attracting up to 1000 times it’s weight in water.

I was given the Urban Decay Naked Eyeshadow Palette as a Christmas gift and the selection of colours are quite essentially me. The selection consists of 12 gold hued matte, satin, shimmer and sparkle textures.  Colours are highly pigmented and using the Urban Decay eye primer, these last all day long without budging or having to top up throughout the day.  The packaging is a chocolatey brown velvet case with the word Naked written in gold foil lettering.  The palette also comes with a double ended blending and eyeshadow brush which is really good quality and also one of my favourites this month.

Finally getting up with my new healthy regime, I’ve started reading the Women’s Health Magazine.  This magazine is not only a great read, it’s inspirational and motivational too.  It contains a selection of workouts, clean eating recipes, fashion articles as well as interviews with the likes of Kayla Itsines.  If you haven’t heard of her, where have you been hiding?!

What items were you all loving during the month of February? I would love to hear any product recommendations that you have and whether you have tried any of my featured items.  Pop me a comment in the box below.

Enjoy the rest of your week!

YSL Volupté Tint-In-Balm

Happy Valentines Day!!

Yves Saint Laurent releases it’s long awaited Volupté Tint-In-Balm in March however it was released a month early exclusive to Selfridges and I was lucky enough to get my hands on it.  First of all, can we all take a minute to appreciate the packaging and design which is truly beautiful.  I love YSL packaging as not only is it gorgeous but it is possibly the most luxurious out there.

This Tint-In-Balm gives instant colour glow and deeply moisturises your lips.  It is an innovative melting 2 in 1 formula which is enriched with jojoba oil, coriander macadamia oil as well as extracts from apricots, passion fruit and pomegranate.  It glides on the lips effortlessly keeping moisture locked in.  Don’t let the bright colours put you off.  I picked up No 7 which is a bright orange with fuscia lips however when applied to the lips it creates a light peachy coral tint. Once applied, to me it smells like watermelon which is rather pleasant.  It’s great for low maintenance touch ups and I absolutely adore it.

There are 12 shades within the collection and they retail at £27.

The perfect gift for Valentines Day xx

My Little Box February 2017 – Mountains

The February My Little Box has arrived and this month showcases a Wintery skiing and mountain theme.  I think I’m probably the only person who hasn’t tried a Winter sport however one day I would love to attempt skiing.  The scenery, the hot chocolates and the log cabins all look divine!

The box design is back to it’s ultra cute illustrations which is continued within the contents of the box.

When you open the box you are greated with a hand illustration and motivational quote.  Alongside this is the My Little Book containing an interesting factual read about mountains across the world and four soup recipes to keep you warm and cosy this month.  My particular favourite is the one for Thai Butternut Squash soup, yum!  MLB has also partnered with Stitch and Story offering subscribers 50 % off knitting materials.  They also include a free knitting pattern for a chunky ski snood complete with a sewing needle to get you started.

If you’re not familiar with MLB each month they include a selection of lifestyle and beauty items, which makes them stand out from the rest.  This month I am absolutely loving the contents.  First up with the lifestyle content are these navy sparkly socks which say “Cold” “Feet” on the ankles.  They’re really comfy socks keeping your tootsies nice and warm.

There is an adorable note book cut out in the shape of a mountain piste.  It has the Wintery illustration on the front and the note pages are ‘post-it’ style so you can stick these anywhere for little reminders.

The final item is a metal tin, similar size to a tin of Vaseline.  Inside contains a fabric embroidered broach which says ‘Coeur de Glace’ which translated to English reads Heart of Ice.  I had to google this one but it’s actually a song in the Disney film Frozen (Don’t judge, I’ve never seen it!)

The My Little Bag of beauty items this month has a ski print.  I love these cotton draw string bags as they’re so handy for travelling or storing jewellery, tights etc. I was very happy to receive the Benefit Pore Fessional primer.  It’s a travel sized edition and although it’s not a new discovery, it’s one of the best pore minimising primers out there.  A little goes along way and once applied to moisturised skin, it gives the perfect base for foundation.

The My Little Beauty item was a French Kiss lip balm.  Similar to the EOS lip balms, the format of this is in a ball shape which effectively allows you to apply all over your lips for precise application.  It’s easy to slot into your handbag and with a screw lid there’s no chance of it coming lose in your makeup bag.  The colour I received adds a nice rosy flush to your lips and is deeply moisturising and not sticky.  MLB products are really good and I would highly rate them.

Finally there was an Icy Magic Eye Contour Energiser from Polaar.  I’ve never heard of this brand however I was impressed with the packaging which gave it a more luxury feel to it.  It’s an invigorating roll on eye treatment that instantly hydrates and lifts dull puffy skin.  It is fortified with Siberian Ginseng that is a revitalising tonic and soothing gel.  Tetrapeptides visibly reduce oxidative stress and preserve skin elasticity.  The full sized version of this retails for £20.50 and is available in the UK from Look Fantastic.  I’m completely hooked.  I keep mine in the fridge for the extra coolness on application to the skin.  The perfect wake up call.

Once again My Little Box have came up trumps delivering a truly amazing box this month.  I have came across some new products which I’m loving, I have fashionable and cosy tootsies and Valentine ready lips.  I cannot wait to see what the futures months hold from MLB.  If you received this month’s box I’d love to know your thoughts and whether you received any different items.  Please leave a comment in the box below.

January 2017 Favourites

Can you believe that we’re waving goodbye to January already!? Time sure does fly by these days.  So far I’ve stuck to my resolutions which to be fair I’m usually very good at until it reaches Nov/Dec.  Although most people look at joining the gym, I figured that I would try something new and stick to it. So whilst continuing with the gym and gymnastics, I’ve started going to spinning classes.  It’s a brand that specialises only in spinning and their studios are fab – think of doing a work out in a nightclub setting, with neon lights, motivational instructors and tunes pumping. It’s so much fun! I’m thinking that this year I may also change my blog to include more lifestyle content, of the healthy variety.  Would you guys be interested in this? I’m thinking beauty and work out tips, updates on the spinning classes and healthy lifestyle choices such as smoothies.  All in all it relates to beauty and I think is a pretty good read. Let me know in the comments below!

Moving on, here is the first instalment of my 2017 favourites for the month of January.

First up is possibly THE best find that I’ve came across in a while.  If you are like me and have highlighted, coloured or bleached your hair to death then you really NEED this item in your life.  Olaplex Hair Perfector is a take home salon treatment for parched hair.  It is an intensive treatment which should be used once a week to strengthen chemically treated hair.  If your hair is severely damaged, my stylist advised to leave it on overnight.  Once you wash it out, your hair is manageable, stronger, softer (but not too soft if you have thin/fine hair) and feels and smells salon fresh.  It’s a miracle worker! You do need to use it weekly to see the true benefits, again on severely damaged hair, otherwise after 5 days your hair will look dehydrated again.  Since using it, my hair has definitely became stronger, I have less breakage and my hair seems to be growing faster.  I absolutely love this and couldn’t recommend it enough.  It retails at around £30 and although it’s only a 100ml bottle, a little goes a long way.

The Bliss Fabulous Foaming Face Wash is rather pricey at £22 however it is a two in one cleanser and exfoliator.  It contains rose hips, chamomile and passion flower to effectively cleanse the face leaving your skin feeling soft and fresh.  Since using this, my skin has looked brighter and much clearer.  I’ve also noticed a reduction in pore size which is always a bonus! I have had no breakouts, even at that time of the month.  I think it’s great and again this is something that lasts a long time.  I’ve taken part in a few makeup trials and it may be coincidental but strangers keep complimenting me on my skin when I’m bare faced.  I’m convinced that this product has played a part in this.  I’m excited to try more products from the Bliss range as this has set the bar very high.

During the cold Winter weather, it’s even more important to exfoliate your skin to get rid of dry skin, keep your skin glowing and a good deep clean.  The Soap & Glory Scrub Your Nose In It is an absolute gem.  Retailing at around £8, it is a pore refining scrub that has really gritty particles which I prefer on my skin as I feel like it gives a better clean.  The formula is a cross between a mud and clay, it contains fruit extracts and smells fresh like a cucumber.  You’ll definitely notice a difference after the first use.

Moving onto another form of scrub, this is the Bobbi Brown Beach Body Scrub.  I managed to pick this up in the January sales so although it retails for £25, I managed to get it for £12.25… bargain!  I have a feeling though that it may be discontinued item?  It is a lightly scented scrub that has hints of jasmine, sea spray and mandarin.  It smells devious and reminds me of Summer Holidays.  The texture is quite gritty with a luxurious rich lotion which quickly exfoliates whilst deeply moisturising.  It’s perfect for exfoliating prior to applying self tan (the grittier the better), but it does leave your skin feeling silky smooth. Love it!

I also picked up two packs of Popbands in the sale.  These were reduced from £6 to £2.50.  They’re gorgeous summer colours and add a pop of colour to even the simplest of outfits.  They are stretchy soft ‘no dent’ hair ties that hold hair up tight and still leave it fresh and kink free when you take it down.  You can also wear these as a bracelet on your wrist as super cute arm candy.

I am obsessed with the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair face masks and when I saw that there was eye masks I had to try these out.  The Advanced Night Repair formula is a super luxe serum that prevents anti ageing, recovers skin from daily pollutions, enhances the condition and texture of the skin whilst deeply nourishing within.  These eye masks help if you’ve had long days, tired eyes or simply have fine lines around your eyes.  They moisturise and brighten and are absolutely fabulous.

My last item is something that I have been eyeing up for months! It is of course the Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze and Glow Palette.  The packaging is rose gold metallic and is simply gorgeous.  The palette includes a face sculpt which is a bronzer which should be applied onto the cheek hollows, ample, jaw line, sides and tip of the nose.  Followed by the highlight which should be applied to the cheek bones, centre of the nose bow of the lips and brow bone for candle lit skin.  I am fair skinned so I purchased the lighter shade.  This product will simply change your life! If you don’t fancy the £49 splurge, you should go to a Charlotte Tilbury stockist and ask them to apply it to your face.  Guaranteed you will also be hooked and most certainly will end up splurging.  I’ve even wore the sculpt shade with no foundation and instantly it just has this magnificent power of changing the shape of your face and making you look like a Film Star goddess. It will simple change your life!

I hope you enjoyed reading this post and I have introduced you to some new items to try out.  If you have already tried the products in this post I would love to hear your reviews so pop me a comment in the box below.
