For The Dreamers…. May 2016 Birchbox

Hi Lovelies,

There’s no doubt about it, we all love day dreaming and thinking about where we could be right now if we won the lotto. This month’s box theme is inspired by dreams with the hope of winning a dream vacation. I’m absolutely loving the unique box design which features a silver scratch coating on the lid of the box. If you are one of the lucky ones you may reveal a winners message however if not, then it is slightly therapeutic scratching the silver coating off to reveal a brightly coloured image.

This month’s contents definitely aim to please and I would say that it’s one of the best boxes I’ve seen for a while. Containing 6 items, it’s a mixture of skincare and make up. Here’s what I received this month:

Spectrum – Unicorn Tears Wonder Sponge – £4.99 (full size)
Spectrum is a range of make up tools. The colour scheme of their brushes is gorgeous! Pinky/Purple and blue with pale pink handles. They look awesome in any make up collection and the good thing is that they are quality brushes with super soft bristles. I’ve got quite a few brushes from the range so I was very excited to see that a beauty blending sponge was part of this month’s box. I selected the violet colour as most beauty blenders seem to be pink. This one is quite firm however blends foundation and concealer flawlessly onto the skin. I would say that this sponge is better than the Real Techniques blender, we just did not get on at all. However I have to say nothing compares to the original Beauty Blender. But the Spectrum sponge is a very good cheaper alternative.

Ole Henriksen – The Clean truth Brightening Cleansing Cloths – £12
I really like this brand and you can purchase it from stores such as Boots, Selfridges and Harvey Nichols. I was pleasantly surprised to find these cleansing cloths as I had been eyeing them up for a while although £12 for a pack of 30 does seem rather pricey? These cloths contain Vitamin C and CoQ10 which will brighten, cleanse and hydrate the skin. I found them to be great at refreshing the skin and taking off make up, however they didn’t remove my eye make up which was slightly disappointing. The cloths smell like oranges which I love. I think these would be great for refreshing your face on a warm Summer’s day but definitely not for removing a full face of make up.

Philip Kingsley Polishing Balm – £18.50
This is one of my go to brands (his volumising shampoo is amazing!!) so I love trialling out samples from a brand that I respect and love. This is a translucent balm to serum that will keep hair feeling and looking smooth and sleek. It will help to banish frizz, flyaways and dry ends whilst deeply nourishing. The formula contains ProVitamin B5 and Vitamin A. It’s not too heavy so works great on thinner hair types. It’s non sticky and didn’t leave my hair feeling or looking greasy. I think with this product a small amount goes a long way.

EyeKo Black Magic Mascara – £18
This mascara covers lashes with a smudge proof pigment that lasts for up to 12 hours. The wand is curved to create a lash lifting curl. Add two coats and you will see volume adding to your lashes. I really liked this product. It didn’t drop or leave little black particles on my face. It was easy to apply and easy to remove using miscellar water. A 4ml sample was included which is perfect for popping in your hand bag for travelling.

Puriskin Resurfacing Cream – £13.99

I’ve never heard of this brand before so was good to stumble upon it. This could potentially be a wonder product (I haven’t used it too many times yet) as it is a multi tasking pot of cream. It aims to banish acne scars, age spots, blemishes, bruises, burns, cracks, dermatitis, razor bumps, split skin and stretch marks. It contains Chamomile which calms and soothes the skin. It renews damaged cells and delivers hydration. The consistency is quite light, it is fragrance free and sinks deep into the skin. It leaves skin feeling cooler and silky smooth. Already I’m loving it and after the first use you notice a difference… well on dry skin for sure!

Givenchy Live Irresistible Eau De Toilette – from £44
To be honest I’m not a fan of receiving perfume virals in beauty boxes as I could easily pop into my local Boots to grab a spritz of the perfume or pick up a sample for free. It always makes me wonder what product I’m missing out on in my box having received perfume. That aside, this fragrance is a fresh Summery scent with fruity notes of pineapple, rose and amber. I think it would be a great scent for Sunday Brunching. A very pleasant and sophisticated scent.

If you have tried out any of these items or products from these brands I’d love to know your thoughts and recommendations. If you received this month’s box, were you the lucky winner of the vacation and did you receive anything different from me? I love reading your comments so please leave some in the box below.
Have a great week!
Love Hayley xx
