Paradise Found…. June Birchbox Review

Hi Guys

This month Birchbox changed the style of their boxes from the usual drawstring bag to a keepsake pull out drawer.  What makes this even better is that fact that I was lucky enough to receive the box with the pineapples, yippee!! The other box design was palm trees however hands down the pineapple design is adorably cute.  I may use this little box as storage for hair ties and accessories, as those pesky little hair grips seem to be everywhere in my apartment!

The theme of the box is “Paradise Found” which has a tropical Summer vacation vibe.  The in-box leaflet contains tips for the Summer season along with how to apply the products.  The box contains 5 items which will prep the skin for those hot days when we go bare faced and bare legged.

James Read – Overnight Tan – £25

This is a sleep mask tan for the face however I’ve tried this product before and have applied to my arms and legs.  It’s a fast drying formula which when applied is colourless, so there’s no staining your pillow at night.  Overnight it will develop into a golden glow which isn’t orangey nor streaky.  It reminds me of the moisturisers with a hint of self tan.  Of course to ensure no streaks, it’s best to use a facial scrub before application to banish any dry skin.  I have very pale skin and this works very well leaving a natural sun-kissed glow.

Percy & Reed Hairspray – £12

This is the perfect size to pop in your handbag! It is an ultra fine, humidity resistant spray which will hold your style in place for hours.  I felt as though it did make my hair feel slightly crunchy  however it’s easy to brush out without leaving any residue.  I wasn’t overly convinced by the smell although it wasn’t over powering thankfully.

Jelly Pong Pong – Paradise Pigments Colour Pot – £17.95 (full size received)

I received the shade Cake Pop which is a very bright vibrant pink.  It’s a stain for lips and cheeks and boy does it stain! I think that the colour is too bright for my skin tone however if you had a golden tan this would look gorgeous! It is easy to blend onto cheeks for a pop of colour however again it was too bright for my complexion and I ended up looking rather clown-esk.   The other shade that this comes in is Fig Jam which is a very pretty orange.  I think I would be more suited to that one unfortunately.

Whish – Coconut Milk CC Cream – £15.50

This is a brand that I’ve never came across before so was excited to trial this out.  The product has a gorgeous strong coconut fragrance which immediately puts you in the vacation mood.  It’s fast absorbing and deeply hydrates the skin.  It has a slight bronze shimmer to it which looks gorgeous on tanned skin.  I used it across my cheeks as a highlighter which made my foundation appear dewy.  A good multi tasking product.

Pure & Light Organic – Essential Face Cream £29

Another new brand discovery! This is a daily moisturiser that is packed with not one but twenty-seven certified organic antioxidant ingredients.  It includes Argan, Rose-Hip, Grape-seed, Orange Blossom and natural vitamins A, D and E.  It also contains omega 3 and 6 to boost cell renewal and deliver hydration.  The product had a very faint fragrance and was quick to absorb into the skin.  It left my skin feeling silky smooth and glowing.

Having seen the box design I was very excited about this box however I would probably only consider purchasing 2 out of the 5 items.  This month didn’t contain the best contents so I’m excited to see what July (my birthday month!!) brings.

Let me know whether you received anything different to me as I love hearing what you received, your recommendations and of course those items which you would avoid.  If you have another other beauty box recommendations I’d love hearing those too!

Love Hayley xx
